Goa, though, intoxicates in various ways.
We know Goa, and it does not need an introduction. For those
who do know the coastal state and for those who don’t—there is always so much
more to discover. Life in Goa centers around its beaches (we can always argue
about that) and for me, travelling for the fi rst time to the land of sun, sand
and surf during the rains was not a washout but, in fact, quite the opposite.
The La Vida Varca of Sterling Holidays in South Goa reflects the breezy mood of
the Varca beach, merely 700 metres away from the resort.
I was welcomed into
La Vida Varca by the sight of palm trees, a refreshing drink, warm smiles from
the staff and the promise of rain. The resort has plenty of accommodation options
with 71 tastefully appointed rooms, including 12 studio rooms and two spacious
luxury suites (all rooms have an LCD TV, microwave, study table, separate
seating, and the suites come equipped with a mini-bar). The resort also
features a gym, a well-equipped bar, which apart from the wines and single
malts also offers the local feni.
Goa, though, intoxicates in various ways. That evening, as I
sat for dinner by the poolside, the live music and the sound of rain set the
perfect tone for my stay at the resort. The food (I am a vegetarian) was quite
up to the mark, with a vast variety of mains and desserts. Days are lazy in Goa
(susegad is the key word in the state) and when in Goa, I did as the Goans do…
woke up late and made my way post breakfast to the spa, which offers Indian and
Western therapies. It was as relaxing as a long meditation session.
Goa is no one thing—it is what you want it to be—the hub for
water sports, heritage, wild night parties, beaches to chill… you can feel the
rush or you can completely take it easy in Goa. I decided to venture out for a
mix of both. I ticked off the culture checklist (Bom Jesus Basilica Church, Se
Cathedral, the Chitra Museum, Archaeological Museum and Big Foot Museum that
showcases the traditional Goan way of life) and then I hit the beach. It rained
again. Bliss!
